Makeup for Allergy Season

I get terrible allergies this time of year and they started harassing me yesterday. For those who don’t wear makeup on a daily basis this is no huge problem. But for those of us who do we know the struggle of running mascara foundation smudged off our noses and the annoying feeling of having makeup on our inflamed faces.

I try to keep with a lighter foundation as much as possible when dealing with allergies. I lean towards a BB or CC cream because they will help to keep my skin hydrated and do not feel suffocating on my skin. For a bit more coverage I lean towards a cushion foundation because they feel very light going on the skin. These two types of foundation are also very easy to reapply after blowing your nose or whatnot.

Setting powder is a nightmare when you feel stuffed up. However, a refreshing setting spray with cucumber or rose water gives you a bit of relief and keeps your makeup looking good all day. The hydration of these sprays wakes me up a little too after taking that terrible allergy medicine.

If you do contouring or highlighting I would suggest using cream or liquid to do these. the powder doesn’t work too well over the spray and light foundations. It helps to blend as well though which is always a plus, no one likes a very harsh highlight or contour.

Waterproof mascara is a must for me this time of year because my eyes will never stop watering or swelling. Last year I got my eyelashes dyed for the first time and that meant no need for mascara which was a life saver!! If you have the money and want to do it I highly suggest doing so. Not only did it take care of my water eye problems but it shortened my makeup routine!

For eyebrows I tend to use a pomade in these times as well rather than a powder or a pencil just because it blends easier and feels much lighter.

I don’t know about you but when I have allergies my lips get super dry. I either do a lipstick and just reapply chapstick a lot or I just get a colored chapstick. I cannot go more than a half hour without applying chapstick which limits my options here sadly.
